Grown in the Church Road vineyard in Waipara, this Late Harvest style wine has been made from fruit off the young Gewurztraminer vines.The hand-harvested grapes were picked very late in autumn in almost raisin like condition with approximately 20% botrytis infection.  The fruit was pressed then the juice poured back over the skins to macerate for another 24 hours. to maximise extraction of flavours from the grape skins.The fruit was then re-pressed and the juice filtered before transfer to well seasoned French Oak for a slow fermentation.  This has produced a rich and unique full flavoured wine bursting with the distinctive aromas of lychees, sweet orange blossom and subtle spices.  These flavours continue into the palate forming a complex sweet wine.375 ml bottle.  Available now.

Ataahua Waipara Late Harvest Gewürztraminer 2020 ***** (5 stars)
This distinctive, delicious North Canterbury wine was made from late-picked, raisined berries, with 10% ‘noble rot’ infection, and slow-fermented in seasoned oak barrels. Golden, with a perfumed, spicy, gently honeyed bouquet, it is weighty, with fresh acidity and rich, peachy, spicy, gently botrytised flavours, sweet and complex. (375ml)
