Grown in our vineyard on the clay loams of the valley floor in Waipara, the fruit for this wine was both machine and hand-harvested. These grapes were foot-stomped in the traditional manner, then cooled and allowed to macerate on skins for up to 36 hours. This maximised the extraction of flavours. The fruit was then pressed, and the juice settled and racked, before a cool fermentation in stainless steel. This has produced a richly perfumed and weighty wine, bursting with the distinctive aromas of lychee, sweet perfume and subtle spices. The palate is slightly oily in texture with a concentrated gingery spiced flavour.
This Gewurztraminer is great served with a wide range of spicy and flavourful cuisine, including many South East Asian influenced dishes. Any meal using the classical Asian ingredients including lemongrass, coriander, tamarind, chilli and lime- to name just a few- will be complemented. This wine is also a wonderful partner to fresh seafood. Serve this Gewurztraminer lightly chilled.

Ataahua Waipara Gewürztraminer 2019 ***** 5 stars
This estate-grown, richly varietal North Canterbury wine was partly oak-aged. Bright, light lemon/green, it is enticingly perfumed and weighty, with strong, ripe peach, lychee and spice flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and a dryish, well-rounded finish.

Ataahua Waipara Gewürztraminer 2019 93pts (5 stars)
Varietally pure and gorgeously perfumed, the wine shows lychee, pineapple, Turkish Delight and subtle spice notes on the nose. It’s equally attractive on the palate, offering succulent fruit intensity combined with silky mouthfeel, leading to a persistent flavoursome finish. At its best: now to 2023. Oct 2020.

Ataahua 2019 Gewurztraminer 91/100, review by Bob Campbell of THE REAL REVIEW
Silken-textured gewürztraminer with rose-water, Turkish Delight, lychee and potpourri flavours. A shy, charming wine with restrained flavours and soft acidity. Flattered by a hint of sweetness.
