Ataahua 2016 Gewurztraminer

Back

Grown in our Church Road vineyard in Waipara, this Gewurztraminer has been made from the fruit off our youngest vines The hand-harvested grapes were foot-stomped in the traditional manner then pressed and the juice fermented slowly in seasoned barrels to produce a delicious wine bursting with the distinctive aromas of lychees, rose petal and subtle spices. These flavours flow through into the palate in a wonderful blend with an off-dry finish. This Gewurztraminer is great with many spicy and flavourful foods including Thai and most asian cuisine dishes using lemongrass, coriander, chilli and lime to name a few.

Youthfully charming and beautifully lifted, the bouquet shows mango, pineapple, rose petal and spice aromas, leading to a juicy palate that is plump and fleshy. The wine offers attractive varietal flavours together with silky mouthfeel and refreshing acidity, finishing velvety and lingering. Style: Off-dry. At its best: now to 2020.

ATAAHUA WAIPARA GEWÜRZTRAMINER 2015
It’s no secret I’m a massive fan of pretty much every wine style to come whisking out of Waipara, but gewürztraminer is still a rarity which is frustrating for me because it’s one of my favourite things in the world. So I do a little dance each time I see one like this with such strong personality, exotically perfumed and with full-bodied, peachy, ginger and musky notes in the mid-palate and finishes dry and finely-tuned. Sip with Vietnamese spring rolls.

Michael Cooper - New Zealand Wines 2017

Exotically perfumed and mouthfilling, the 2014 vintage is a partly barrel-fermented wine (20 per cent) with soft, rich flavours. Peachy, spicy and slightly gingery, it is concentrated, with good complexity, gentle sweetness and a seductively smooth finish.

Tizwine Top tip 2014

Intensity rules in this full bodied, powerfully aromatic white, which has aromas of Turkish delight, sweet rose flavoured marshmallow and lychees; in the mouth, the wine is soft with a light touch of acidity balancing the medium dry style. A real stand out for its power and smoothness.
