Ataahua 2015 Merlot


A deliciously full red to have with aged beef fillet, seared venison etc – this is way too smart for your average BBQ. Very elegant and complex red with ripe plum and blackberry flavours, complemented by hints of liquorice, spice and toasted oak. Excellent concentration.

Michael Cooper - New Zealand Wines 2017

Delicious young, the 2014 vintage of this estate-grown red was matured for a year in seasoned French oak casks. Fragrant and full-coloured, it is mouth-filling, with fine-grained tannins and a strong surge of fresh plum/blackcurrant flavours. Best drinking mid-2017+

It is beautifully fruited on the nose showing dark plum, blackcurrant, mint chocolate and hazelnut characters. The palate is succulent and supple, and delivers attractive fruit intensity and silky texture, finishing long and pleasingly dry. The wine is plump and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2020. $30.00.
